Q: Do you offer cut and split Firewood?

A: Absolutely, all of the firewood we sell has been cut standard to 16” (unless alternate lengths are requested) and split 6 ways by a large wood processing machine.

Q: What is the difference between your Firewood by the Cord and your Stove Wood?

A: Firewood logs used are from dead standing trees. As you can imagine, trees all die at different stages of their lives. Some are 6” in diameter while others are up to 26.5” in diameter. All of the logs are placed through the same type of machine thus making each log split differently based on the diameter of the log. Most pieces generally are perfect size to place in your fireplace or stove. However there will be some pieces that end up being larger than others and may need to be split additionally to make these pieces more ideal for your particular stove. Our stove wood takes the guess work out of how many pieces that may need to be re-split. We personally split any larger than ideal pieces to fit your particular stove and hand stack them ready for use.

Q: Is your firewood dry?

A: YES! Our firewood is considered ready for use. A study done by Cornell University states: “It’s important to burn only wood with moisture content below 20%. Burning wood with higher moisture content creates more smoke, which contains harmful chemicals and particulates and forms creosote on your chimney. It also gives you less heat, because it takes energy to boil off the excess water.” We strive to have our firewood at 10-13% moisture which is far below the base moisture limits. By providing this exceptional firewood, more heat is provided and less creosote build-up in your chimney. Having 10-13% moisture is considered ideal. Once the moisture content gets less than 10% then the wood quickly burns away, sucking in too much air and cooling the flue gases as it does this, which in turn increases unwanted emissions. A little moisture is good for moderating the burn rate.

Q: What do you use to deliver our firewood?

A: We utilize CDL/DOT Rated Dump Trucks and Roll-Off Bins (aka – Dumpsters) registered to haul up 1,912.6 Cubic Feet(cuft) at a time. One cord of firewood is 128 cuft stacked. A tossed cord is 170 cuft. That means we can haul up to 11 cords at a time. We guarantee a FULL CORD of FIREWOOD!

Many “firewood guys” in the area source there logs illegally from tree removals in our National Forests without a commercial firewood cutting permit. These logs are then left who-knows-where for who-knows-how-long. When you purchase wood like this, there is a high likelihood that you’re also bringing home unwanted pests and moisture. Insect-infested wood makes storing firewood inside your home impossible. It can also have devastating consequences when stored outside, as you’re allowing bugs to take up residence in your outdoor firewood storage area.

When you purchase your firewood from Flathead Father N’ Son, we ensure that your firewood is insect- and fungus-free. We purchase our logs/firewood from local loggers that have obtained the licensing, permits and authority to harvest timber to promote forest regeneration, improve wildlife habitats and promotes biodiversity of plants and animals.
